Would a Black Chandelier Work in Your Room?
When shopping for lighting fixtures, you need to keep a wide variety of things in mind. Price is, of course, an important element, along with size and style. A chandelier that is too large will overwhelm a small room while at the same time, a small fixture will get lost and look completely out of place in a large room. Not to mention that you will end up using a variety of floor lamps to get enough light in the room. Style is obviously important as you don’t want to put an ornate Victorian chandelier with crystal lamps in a country or pub themed room. Along the same lines, a rustic or plain chandelier would look strange in a formal sitting room.
You also need to consider the amount the light your room requires and how the color of the fixture will fit into the room and affect the amount of light given by the fixture. While a black chandelier might be a trendy choice, if the lamp shades are black as well it will certainly affect the amount of light the chandelier emits. If the arms themselves are black, they will either stand out against virtually any ceiling or paint color so be sure that is the look you are hoping to achieve.
Black chandeliers are a bold statement if used with black shades in a monochromatic room. A basically white room is anchored by a black lighting fixture in the same way that a white chandelier provides a pop of light in a mainly black or gray room. A white chandelier with black shades is another way to make a bold statement without veering into tacky.
Black sconces can be a difficult design choice as they will definitely pop on a wall of any color but that isn’t always a good thing. A room with peaceful pastels will be harshly interrupted with a black chandelier or sconce, beyond the fact that a black lamp shade will give minimal light.
On the other hand, if you’re looking to make a bold statement with your lighting fixtures, a black chandelier with brightly colored lamp shades might be exactly the way to go.
